Australian Made
Australians have always been amazing innovators. You give us a hamburger and we’ll slap pineapple on it and make it even better. Give us a ham sandwich, boom, now that sucker has Vegemite on it and you are welcome.
In the tech industry we are no different. If you give us a problem, some coffee, a computer, a lot more coffee, and a wee bit of time you are going to see some innovations. For example, BigTinCan. Developer BuzzMe Beats saw that there were a ton of musicians in the marketplace and while piracy was eating into some of their profits it was the big music distribution platforms that were making the money and not the artist. They changed all of that with this app that allowed artists to put the music straight into the hands of the fans via their mobile phone. The money went straight to the artist and thus eliminating the middle man.
Animal Logic, which is an Australian visual effects company, developed some ground breaking plugins that saved millions of dollars. They were able to see that there was a hole in the production work flow where Rendering and Animation had to be done separately. Not anymore said Animal Logic and they set to work. The biggest hurdle was that there were two software options for animation so they developed SoftMan and MaxMan which tied them all together. This drastically brought down production time and costs making it all a smoother process.
Those are just two of the examples of Aussies innovating the crap out of a problem but of course we want to hear from you.
Do you know of a bit of kit that is 100% Aussie made and ready to take the world by fire? Is there a bit of tech that we are all using already that is Aussie made and we don’t even know it? Let us know in the comment section below.
